What Is A Vegan? Reasons Why People Become Vegans

Veganism is the practice to shun the use of animal products, mainly in the diet. A follower of the diet is known as a VEGAN. Veganism is a philosophy of living and eating in a way that excludes the cruelty and exploitation against animals.

Reasons why people become vegans:

The reasons why people chose to eat this way might be ethical, for their health or for the environment.

Ethical: Ethical vegans have a strong belief that all creatures have the right to live their lives. They oppose the ending of any conscious being’s life just for its flesh, milk or its skin. These people avoid meat and dairy products because of their belief in the animal’s freedom.

Health: Some people choose the philosophy of veganism for its potential health effects. Some believe that plant-based diets may help to reduce the risk of heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, premature death or cancer. Others believe that avoiding meat, eggs, and dairy products help to improve health, lose weight or lower disease risk.

Environment: People also chose to avoid meat and other animals and dairy products because of the impact of the environment on animal agriculture. Animal agriculture also leads to deforestation.

There are different types of vegans such as dietary vegans, whole food vegans, junk food vegans, and raw food vegans. These vegans eat a wide the range of plant food, lentils, nuts, seeds, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. A vegan diet helps to reduce weight.

Indian cuisine is very well known for its exquisite spices, fresh herbs and a wide variety of flavors. The traditional Indian diet highlights the intake of plant foods like lentils, veggies and low meat consumption. There are many delicious cuisines but the following is a vegetarian diet for weight loss.

VEGETABLES: Tomatoes, spinach, eggplant, okra, mushrooms, cabbage, cauliflower, onions.

FRUITS: Mango, papaya, guava, oranges, pomegranate, lychee, apples, plums, bananas, and pears.

WHOLE GRAINS: Brown rice, basmati rice, barley, corn, sorghum, millet.
